TSA - Great Crested Newts

Great Crested Newts are a European Protected Species which means that the animals and their eggs, breeding sites and resting places are protected by law. Great Crested Newts are widely found across the Network Rail infrastructure, most likely within 500m of a pond, therefore where work is planned that may disturb them or damage their habitats a license from the Statutory Authority (Natural England, Natural Resources Wales and Scottish Natural Heritage) must be applied for. The purpose of this Track Safety Alliance film is to raise awareness about Great Crested Newts and understand how we can survey for them and apply for licences to work near them.
